Your 6-foot artificial Christmas tree has seen its days, and you replaced it with a new one. But what should you do with the old one as disposing of that enormous tree is a concern? Well, we have some excellent news to prevent your faux tree from landing in landfills and becoming a hazard to the environment.

Repurpose Your Old Fake Christmas Tree

Now is the time to start developing your craft skills with your fake tree by taking it apart. Then, you can turn the tree into new decor throughout the year. The option is perfect if that tree is tattered in many spots.

Grab some clippers or scissors to cut through the branches disassembling the tree. With branches that have wires, you can use them for positionable crafts. If you have a pre-lit tree, be careful of exposed wire and cover it with electrical tape if you cannot remove it.

You can use pieces of the branches to make a wreath to create any form desired. Or, you can make teardrop-shaped wall hangings. Finally, make some garland by connecting the pieces using floral wire. You can even craft napkin rings with the built-in wiring.  With the top section, you can make a tabletop Christmas tree or get crafty, spraying it another color to use as a centerpiece.

Donate Your 6-Foot Artificial Christmas Tree

If your tree is still in good shape and you only replaced it with a newer one, you can donate your tree to a thrift store or a charity. Give your tree to a nursing home as they always look for trees instead of buying one. Ensure that you give the thrift shop a call beforehand, as many have limited space and might only accept the holiday decor, not the tree. You can even advertise your tree for free on the Facebook Marketplace.

The Best Way to Recycle Your Christmas Tree

Look around in your city as you may find a recycling program for fake Christmas trees. You can call the recycling center to see if they have such a program available. Most trees have a PVC structure, so you cannot throw it with other recycling material. Then remove any ornaments, loose items, and tinsel before handing over the tree for recycling.

Disposing Your Faux Tree

If you do not want to do the above, then the tree is the last option. You can place the 6-foot artificial Christmas tree in a dumpster or put it in a business dumpster asking for permission. You can also disassemble the tree by placing it in your trash can for collection with your regular trash. For this option, you may need to do it in pieces weekly or can place it on the curb for pickup if your city does bulk item pickup.
